A tsutsu (cylindrical) chawan with a Kyōgen hakama motif.. The inlaid lines are carefully finished; their softened edges and gentle roundness give the pattern a quiet, yielding presence. A closely comparable form is found among older works (known as Fujibakama), standing upright in a way that seems to “call for tea” in the colder months.
Roundels are placed on three sides, with a lotus-petal band around the waist and a thunder pattern inlaid near the upper section. A subdued celadon glaze lies over a reddish clay body and continues into the inside of the foot. The glaze has melted evenly across the surface, and fine crackle runs throughout. The low foot is shaped with a takefushi (bamboo-node) profile.
