信楽の陶芸家・谷穹による白瓷の茶碗。

谷穹さんは主に無釉焼締のものを作るが、近年、白瓷（はくじ。磁器、施釉のもの）もそのラインナップに加わった。長年に渡り貫入の入り方の研究を重ねてこられたようで、その試行錯誤の成果として、谷さんの白瓷茶碗は、在る。
貫入の方向性、細かさなど、土との相性も含めてコントロールされており、窯の火という「他力的な委ね」を神秘化せず合理的に腑分けし、その上で、超越的なものへの捧げ物として非俗的であるという信楽のコアを現代において表現することにおいて、この白瓷茶碗もまた他の谷穹の作品と変わるところはない。
薄い畳付きの低い高台から、少しゆっくりとした轆轤目が微妙なでこぼこをなしつつ開いてゆき、口縁はわずかに反るがすぐに止まり、面取りされている。腰からの形としては高麗的な雰囲気も感じられる。
見込みには落ち窪んだゆったり目の茶溜まりがある。
高台から口縁にかけて徐々に薄くなっていくようなろくろで、底部や腰まわりは、それなりに厚みを持っている。
透明釉には内外、全体的に非常に繊細な貫入が入り、とくに見込みにおいては貫入が景色として独自のみどころを作っている。釉薬が掛かっているので、道具としての扱いのしやすさは素直に利点である。白瓷（白磁）ではあるのだが、均一で瑕疵のない白ではなく、青みがあったり、象牙色であったり、ピンホール、部分的に土味の見える箇所、灰の影響を受けたような部分など、細かいピッチで多くの変化があり、単純ではない。
茶碗の正面性は低く、今回の掲載時は一枚目を正面としてみたが、あまり正面ということに拘泥しないほうが、この茶碗の在り方にとってはふさわしいだろう。

向き
形状、大きさ、品格ともに濃茶にも用いても良いと思う。少なくとも谷さんは自身の作品について、神仏や超越的なものへの通路、捧げ物としての側面を意識されているのであり、献茶的性格を濃く持つ濃茶への使用は真っ当であろうと思われる。ただし実際の茶事茶会では、そのような文脈を一座全員で共有できることは極稀であろうから、モダンでミニマルな雰囲気をもった薄茶の茶碗として軽くあしらうことも、良いだろう。重要なのはこのような「分かりづらいもの」が実際に茶席で使われ、かつ後世に伝えられていくことである。
