Tori Yoshino: Hagi Chawan
Tori Yoshino: Hagi Chawan
A tea bowl by Tori Yoshino, a ceramic artist based in Hagi.
The bowl is well fired, displaying a subtle gradation of the warm, loquat-colored tones characteristic of Hagi ware. The irregular rim, crackle patterns, variations in the glaze, and raw character of the clay give it a sense of strength. At the same time, the overall form, with its slightly inward-curving rim, and its lightness in the hand lend it a sense of elegance.
