E-Karatsu (Painted Karatsu) Water Jar (Mizusashi) with Matching Lid by Yoshihisa Ishii.

The soroban-dama (abacus-bead) shaped body features a generously expanding, taut waist that lends a sense of artistic tension to the piece. It has a wide, flared rim and is complete with a matching clay lid (tomobuta). The lid is crowned with a knob shaped like a fruit stem with chamfered corners. The sturdy, thick foot ring (kodai) slopes inward, leading to a central, conical spur (tokin) within the spiraling wheel marks (rokuro-me).

The foot and its surrounding area remain unglazed, revealing the raw clay (tsuchimise). Cascading runs of glaze enhance the piece's shifting visual character (keshiki), complemented by iron-painted designs (tetsu-e) applied in three locations around the body.
