Collection: Akemi Ito
Akemi Ito has a kiln in Tagawa, Fukuoka Prefecture.
He is a member of the Old Karatsu Research Society and creates pottery in Tagawa, the birthplace of the feudal domain's Ueno ware kiln. When you think of Ito, many techniques immediately come to mind, such as Kohiki, Shiosu, Hakuji, Mishima, etc. He is an artist with a wide range of skills.
He even uses the name "Utsuwaya" in his own words, and hopes that people will use his pottery (his works) as much as possible in their daily lives.
Ito is very natural and light-hearted. She just loves old things, she loves pottery, and she loves making things with her hands. That's all (or so it seems). Conversely, it is precisely because of this that Akemi Ito's work is endowed with a gentleness that soothes the soul. In a sense, it is also a rejection of existing authority. I wonder if they understand this.
