It uses a rare technique called "yakishime" (firing) using Mashiko clay.

The kiln is fired in an anagama kiln for a total of six days, with the vessels being filled with embers, and then as the embers gradually decrease, the vessels are completely filled with embers again, and this process is repeated three times. This apparently allows Shikamaru to achieve the kiln changes he is looking for.

When I asked Shikamaru how he would use this bowl, he said he would put some fillets of fish on it and serve it at the dinner table. That would also look really good.

It is a little heavy (not so much if you're used to Heath ceramics), but the rustic scenery and minimalist shape will make you want to cook.

Apparently, you can just scrub it with a scrubbing brush to maintain it, and it will gradually become smoother.

(Because it is a yakishime (fired) pottery, it has a rougher texture than glazed pottery, but it is not unpleasant to the touch or mouth.)
